What's At Stake:


Proposed constitutional amendment to ban civil unions and gay marriages

How the proposal reads: To create section 13 of article XIII of the constitution; relating to: providing that only a marriage between one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as a marriage in this state (2nd consideration).

What this means: According to an analysis by the non-partisan Legislative Reference Bureau "It provides that only a marriage between one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as a marriage in this state and that a legal status identical or substantially similar to that of marriage for unmarried individuals shall not be valid or recognized in this state." Civil unions and domestic partnerships, both heterosexual and gay or lesbian, would also be made illegal under Wisconsin's proposal.

Why Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin opposes this amendment: Planned Parenthood believes an amendment to Wisconsin’s Constitution, banning gay marriage, domestic partnerships and benefits, and civil unions threatens Wisconsin citizens' fundamental right to privacy that individuals should be able to choose their partners in marriage. Why is it the right has been so successful in their efforts to penetrate and control every facet of American culture and government? It is because they are organized. They have methods of disseminating information and influence, and the means to channel that communication into action.

The left has failed to succeed in part because they did not have a delivery system for communicating ideas and translating those ideas into action. This is starting to change, and I, the True Blue Blogger, seek to embolden those efforts on the left with the True Blue Blog.
